Lately I’ve been taking my dog for long walks along the water every evening. This gives me a lot of time alone with my thoughts and helps to clear my head. With graduation fast approaching (3 days!!!), I’ve found myself thinking a lot about the upcoming changes in my life. I’ve also been thinking a lot about the type of person I want to be and the kind of life I want to have. I decided to make some goals for myself and I thought I’d share them here. I split my goals into three categories: Mind, Body, and Soul.
Mind
- Read. I love reading. Ever since I learned how to read I was hooked. Staying up late reading a thriller novel, sitting on the beach lost in a fantasy book, or learning more about one of my idols through a biography – I was always reading. Somewhere along the way though I found myself only reading college textbooks and always too busy to read for pleasure.
- Keep up with current events. I’m terrible for this one. I often realize I’m too much focused on myself and oblivious to what’s happening in the world around me.
- Learn more about history. I love watching documentaries, exploring museums, and taking walking tours. There are so many places in this world that I know nothing or very little about and I want to learn more.
- Start a blog. Hey I did this one! I think this blog will be very useful for me. Sometimes I find my thoughts overwhelming and it will be nice to have a place where I can get everything out, and hopefully make sense of what’s going on in my head.
Body
- Drink more water. There are so many benefits to drinking water. It flushes out toxins, increases energy levels, makes your skin glow, and so much more.
- Drink green tea. Green tea is full of antioxidants and nutrients that promote good health.
- Eat more raw food. As food is cooked, it loses its nutrients. Raw food, therefore, is more nutrient dense.
- Get more sleep. I love waking up early and having the whole day ahead of me. Waking up early is substantially harder when I’ve stayed up late the night before.
Soul
- See more sunsets. There is something so calming about watching the sun disappear into a sky full of pink, yellow, and orange. It’s a reminder that endings can be beautiful too.
- Be present. Often I find I have so much going on in my own life that I am not giving my full attention to the people I am with. I found a quote recently that I liked “wherever you are, be all there”. Time spent with friends and family is something to be cherished.
- Disconnect. I realize that the Internet is important for certain aspects of life, but it should not be all consuming – it should not be an addiction.
- Travel. “Travel as much as you can, as far as you can, for as long as you can. Life’s not meant to be lived in one place.” I am most excited about this goal. I want to see the world.
I love this blog! This is exactly how I feel. I want to disconnect from social media, be present, and travel!

Be in the present – it seems so challenging despite the simplicity of the idea. It is always something I come back to when I am just simply too overwhelmed.
It’s not always easy (okay, it’s not usually easy at all), but it eases my mind and soul when I am able to just connect to the present, leave the past behind and stop worrying about the future.
A great exercise a yoga teacher once taught me was to breathe in “Let” and breathe out “Go”. I use it as much as possible.
Thank you for your post. Xoxoxo

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for your thoughts! I’ve had yoga instructors use that same technique too, and I agree it’s great for putting your mind at ease.
